Forum Update Update Regarding The Recent Forum Instability

As most of you are probably aware, the forum has had some serious stability issues since the ownership transfer. As such, none of us have been able to move forward with any of our plans for the site yet.

I sincerely apologize for all of this. Unfortunately, due to how Xenforo is structured, there is very little I, or the other admins, can do to directly address the situation. Every time the sever would go down, I would need to message support and ask them to restart it so we can troubleshoot. As you can imagine, this has been a very arduous process. Which is why I haven't been as active on the forum myself.

However, that doesn't mean I've abandoned the project. Far from it, actually. I've been in constant contact with Xenforo support over this time, although they haven't been of much help if I'm being frank. Here's a screenshot of our chat so far:

Having to rely on support to restart the server every time there's been a database error has been inconvenient, to say the least. Especially since they seem to be based in Europe while I'm in the US. Meaning that support is offline when I'm awake and can only respond to my messages after I've gone to bed.

I hope that whatever configuration change they made helps, as this "database error" has continued to crop up no matter what add ons we've disabled.

I will continue to update this post as the situation develops. Again, I apologize for all of this. I know this isn't a very good way to start "reviving" the forum. But hopefully with the help of support, the previous owner, and the other admins, we can get this issue resolved already.

Yes and no, we do have options though that can't be shared right now. I will say however this whole situation has really pissed me off as Ignika was really eager to get this place thriving and active again once he was in control, now he is and due to a sloppy transferral process on Xenforo's part the system don't even want to work well anymore and we are practically walking on eggshells when we want to add or remove stuff as we just don't know what will take the database down. Whole fiasco has suffocated our activity and growth big time as how can we get people to even want to use or join the site anymore if the server don't even want to stay online? We have to manually email these guys to restart the server each time it goes down and it doesn't help Xenforo seems to be based in the UK so when Ignika's emails requesting to restart the server reach them they are usually asleep. This is something we can't simply fix easily on our end unfortunately and doesn't help we don't have access to the main server too due to it being on Cloud, making this a huge headache. Again, considering our options but not even Xenforo, the actual server people, know what's going on which really does leave us in the dark in what to do here.

can you guys access the database? specifically, can you access the error_log table and view what errors are getting put there?

We have tried but site seems to crash before any log can even be made, let me ask one of our admins as he's been looking into the logs more than I have.

Wow ok so our team are looking into this and if this thread is correct then what's been happening to our site may have been more sinister than on surface...

I'm in the process of adding Cloudflare DDoS protection to the site. It should be enabled shortly. Lets see if this really is the source of the problem.

i mean it will probably help, but if some extension is logging errors to your error_log database table, it's gonna cause memory issues eventually.

Post what's in the error_log table and maybe we could find the actual source of the issue

We do not have access to the DB since we use xenforo cloud afaik

Have we asked Xenforo staff to look at the table? If so what did they say again?

Unless I read it wrong, it looks like the sql server just crashes before it can make any logs

Update: slowly we have been implementing old addons with no issues, we will test more stuff over the next week and if nothing happens its safe to say someone was trying to throttle us offline and end the forum for good.
