Question What if Mariana Bay became an IRC? or Imageboard?

Same as IRC, but with images and option to create threads that will have few replies each. Also you would need quite big catalog to prevent old threads disappearing.

Forum format is fine, it's just that few regular posters moved on and this place died. Change of format won't change much

I think most people here already know what an imageboard entails, but regarding IRC, what if we made the whole forum just the chat function? It seems like imageboards and forums are too slow for most people and require a high level of investment.

I never used an IRC, but I don't know how it would play out. I don't think that posting on forums is "too high effort", if you looked through posts here, maybe 20% of them are actually thought out with some effort put into research / formatting / making subject actually interesting. People can post here pretty much anything and it will get by.

If making a post on a website it "too much effort" and someone is looking for "low entry IRC text chat" thing, they might as well go to discord.

There are plenty of imageboards already so there would be no point
As for the IRC I think it's interesting but it would require a lot more attention if self hosted aand idk how many ppl would be interested in this

We have a Mariana Bay chatroom on-site and an imageboard seems like it would be a worse version of the Xenforo forum.

I wouldn't mind having the Mariana chatroom accessible via IRC *and* on-site, whether on a synced channel or just a way to login to the IRC with your Mariana credentials.

We do have an IRC (the chat on the forum kinda) the only major difference is that there is no app for it (hexchat and such)

IRC is a cute addition but the site fading into IRC would be nearly as sad as all the previous forums that faded into Discord.

Imageboards are too niche a market and basically require 4chanX integration to be viable. While 4chan was down I spent a lot of time combing through the best and worst of imageboards and have come to the conclusion that Lainchan and Wapchan are the best we've got and most others are doing it very wrong.

This site has seemed super slow the past few months which is a bummer. I hope it picks up some steam!

Actually no, I like this idea. With the new updates coming to Discord people will be looking for a new way to quickly chat and an IRC may be a good shout, not to mention more secure and stable than our current site based chat.

We have been ddosed really bad for the last few months after transfer, really wasn't fault as we wanted to polish up the place before all the issues took place, and only now have we fixed it. New admin is still busy with moving but after the pace should pick up again.

Ok maybe the wrong word as it would a fairly decent backend to be manageable but I feel in terms of privacy it could be more secure and better to use than our current chat

Privacy depends on the person that has the server, country and if he has anger issues or not

I was thinking of just implementing the current site chat instead of setting up an actual irc.

The seperate IRC may be a good idea however, would have to find the right host but could be a fun idea, the forum will never go away and hopefully will see some changes here when the current admin finishes moving.

Yeah basically, with anonymous posting, but also allowing users to create an account if they wish for name-fagging or to avoid impersonation.

We can advertise it on 4chan again too.

We could just make a subdomain instead and keep the forum so that we'll have
