Online Safety Act: explainer

UK's Online Safety Act comes into force
The UK’s Online Safety Act has officially come into force, ushering in a new era of regulatory scrutiny for online platforms

I briefly mentioned this in my resignation thread but felt like this needed its own because one of the most totallitarian bills has come into force in the UK and now as a legal site owner within the UK if you don't comply and strictly enforce this new legal framework you can fined up to 18m (yes, that much!) and get your site taken down. Not only that but potentially block UK citizens from accessing non-compliant websites so if I disppear you know why.
This is all very sad, so many small boards based here are shutting down now and the UK becomes more of a rainbow dictatorship by the day

Hamster forum and local residents’ websites shut down by new internet laws
Scope and scale of Online Safety Act likened to China’s ‘great firewall’ as small websites struggle to comply

Even hamster forums are affected, wtf is going on? Its funny as I forgot this law was even coming and chose a really good time to transfer over this forum as going forward I won't ever be able to legally own this place without facing issues. I think the most sick part of this bill is they are claiming its to "protect children" (because the UK gov think Andrew Tate is responsible for every ill deed here), what a gross way to go about silencing state dissidents at least a communist dictatorship will be honest and tell you they're censoring you because they hate you, not this "oh its for the children" jargon.
Very bleak times for us ahead here, do wish us well.
