It's genuinely charming asf, I liked it more than she predicted. Not really a toy guy myself but it's OK when she buys me them.

Granted, walking around looking for BBC while talking to characters are neat, but it's ultimately kinda boring.

Granted, walking around looking for BBC while talking to characters are neat, but it's ultimately kinda boring.

I haven't played it yet, will do later but will say this whole Dream BBQ project has felt overly-ambitious to me from the start. Joel is an artist, not a game developer, and I see this again and again with these artists being all like, "Let's make a videogame!" without knowing the full extent of time and effort it will require, not to mention having to pay artists, programmers, musicians, bug testers, etc. Over four years for 1-2 hours of gameplay ain't great no matter how artistic and the fact he wants chapters for this is really going to stunt his projects in the long term because what, another four years for the next episodes whilst all other content is put on the backburner and no one hears from you barely for another good few years? Doesn't feel sustainable, I hope the other chapters have less of a gap in-between and his team is actually loyal and sticks around otherwise he's going struggle maintaining the audience.

That's the annoying thing though, it was going to be an episode and if it was an episodic series like originally planned instead of an episodic game instead we would have got chapter 1 back in 2022 or 2023 easy. Instead we got the game route which took until 2025 and goodness knows when chapter 2 and 3 will come out, I unironically may have a kid by then lol. No one asked for a game and if he just left it a bit later as he built up more content I feel it would've been a wiser idea.

about time it's out. Thank god it's for free, otherwise it would've been dead on arrival.
I agree that vidya game route is probably worst possible way to present more content. 90% of people would've been fine with next episodes being in a video form. Maybe create some small ARG / setup some AI chatbot if you really want to not be like every other content creator

Ok after playing I'm very 50//50, it was highly visually impressive but for not even two hours of gameplay without side quests is very disappointing. It was very good don't get me wrong but I feel the same as you, it was just lacking. If it wasn't for Joel's art the game would be shat on to no end, thats the main thing keeping it up here as gameplay was non-existent and it was more a visual novel if anything.
