Sorry, but I don't fancy standing in the freezing cold to replace a timing belt. Especially as I don't have the tools, skills or quite frankly time to do it.

Yeah sure. I'm all ears to educate myself about feet to then have to browse marketing bs of every shoe company.
As if I dunno, there weren't mechanics, specialists that are going to do better job / give better advice than my educated guess based on a 30m lookup

I find it's easiest to say everyone has unique skills and talents. If the older folks are being like that ask them if they could troubleshoot a computer. With any luck they'd realize how being judgemental like that isn't the way to speak to someone.

That being said, if home ownership was obtainable I'd personally consider learning the subjects you mentioned, but as long as I live in rentals that forbid working on vehicles in the parking lot it just simply won't happen, and I'm not paying out of pocket to fix someone else's property when the plumbing breaks.

My favorite thing is when they tell me to pull up my boot straps and work harder when I already work a 40 hour week and make a lower middle-class income... I just can't afford to purchase land or a house because the boomers raped the American Dream, leaving the rest of us with it's rotting, blown-out corpse.
