Why is this annoying asf image format everywhere now? I remember when you could go on Google Images, get a photo for a video project, and it would be saved in either jpeg or png no questions asked. Now I've got to always check it's not in this God forsaken .webp format or else Sony Vegas or other editing software won't play ball with it.

Good balance of quality and small file size IIRC. Works really well for the web but that's about it, which is why no software seems to support it other than web browsers.

The change seemed to happen overnight. Just downloading jpegs like normal and then.webp shit starts popping up on every site, making you having to manually open the image in a new tab if you wanna save it properly or throwing it from a webp to jpg/png converter.

It used to be pretty annoying having to convert them every time but eventually I did find a nice extension that lets you convert it without having to use external sites or anything.

A .webp file almost corrputed one of my projects for 50% of a module mark yesterday. Needless to say a few months onwards from posting this thread I still absolutely love this image format.

Please send, would save me many a headache.

sure, this is the extension I've been using. It's especially useful since some of the websites I've used in the past actually don't keep transparency when converting to png but thankfully the extension does

I know this is about as sophisticated of a technical solution of smacking your TV when the connection gets fuzzy, but I've found that if I simply rename the file from .webp to .jpg or .png it usually works just fine

Nah only works 10% of the time, a lot of the time the file just don't work if you do it yourself so most cases conversion is needed
