Gaming Phantasy Star Online

Has anyone here played Phantasy Star Online? I play it a lot, but I do so offline. I have had a few characters over the years, but I started again. I play on Gamecube. Gamecube has a four-player splitscreen for the missions that I played occasionally with friends. I have considered using online and beating the game, but I haven't bothered with it as of now. I heard the original Xbox version has voice chat, but it is harder to do crossplay on custom servers which support it so if I played the Xbox version, I would need a few friends to play with me as well if I wanted any easy way to form parties. You can play online on Wii and Wii U if you use backwards compatibility, the latter of which requires Nintendont. Most servers require an original serial key to play online, so you may need a legitimate copy. You would want to keep it if you play on servers which require serial keys to prevent piracy, for whatever reason.

Phantasy Star Online is one of my favorite series. I mostly play the most recent one, New Genesis, on the JP servers. I like it a lot despite its problems.
Have you tried the PC version of the original PSO, Blue Burst? I play that every now and then on the Ephinea private servers.

I haven't played Phantasty Star Online 2 much, although what I have played was on the NA servers. I played original PSO2 more than PSO2:NGS.

I have not played PSOBB yet, but I am unsure if it can run on my computer anyways. I stuck to the console versions as they all have custom servers as well and I would only miss episode four's content. Although, due to missing E4 if I do not play Blue Burst, I will consider it. I suspect the spec requirements are low for PSOBB, so that is good. I hope I can run it on Linux though.

I remember playing PSO2, not a bad game but really grindy and I miss the art style of the OG too compared to the modern overly animey one

OG Pso2 was great. It's a shame you didn't manage to get in on the game when it was JP only. The global release was botched and censored, and the game didn't have much time to shine anyway since they released NGS a year or so later. I still play on JP, but these days most people have moved on to NGS. The Pso2 blocks are pretty much dead most of the time. Not sure if the same is true on global, though.

If you are referring to the actual original Phantasy Star game, then I am unsure as I have not played it yet. If you're referring to Phantasty Star Online 1, there are private servers on top of the offline mode built into the Dreamcast, Gamecube, and Xbox versions. Blue Burst requires a private server, but you can self-host one and it has a 4th episode too which is nice.
