Hello there.
There's a sudden spark in me to learn and make some animations. I come here with a question, as probably someone already went through it
should I take an easy route and animate in sfm ? Or bite the bullet and learn blender ?
No matter which one I choose, I will be learning it from the ground up.

I have absolutely no idea what type and for how long I will be making animations. I just had an idea to give it a go.
So... Assuming that I might quickly burn out and drop it... Is it worth to go the hard way ?

If you're looking for a general-purpose 3D modeling and animation software with a wide range of capabilities, Blender is a solid choice. However, if you specifically want to work within the Source engine for game-related animations, SFM might be the better option.

I wish I knew myself. I might want to create some animations for future video edits. So probably blender is a way to go.

Gosh that "to learn" list is getting long

Did you get around to learning much of this in the end?
unfortunately other projects that have a deadline (and Nier Replicant) stopped me from looking into it. I have few more things in the queue before I will be able to look into it
